National Magnetic Resonance Society
The National Magnetic Resonance Society (NMRS)was established in the year 1995, with the aim of bringing together scientists working in areas such as nuclear magnetic resonance, electron spin resonance, nuclear quadrupole resonance and related fields.
Annual national symposia are held at various centres under the auspices of the society. In addition, the society sponsors local events in specific areas. Scientists working in any one of the above mentioned area can enroll themselves as Life-Members. In addition, Corporate Memberships are also available.
The details regarding this can be obtained by writing to any one of the members of the executive committee or to the office of the society or by email. Also, every year, few renowned scientists will be elected by the Executive Committee as Honorary Members.
Other activities of the society include circulating announcements regarding national and international events related to magnetic resonance and partially sponsor travel for a limited number of young scientists to enable them attend international conferences. NMRS has its office at the NMR Research Centre, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
Travel Awards
Travel assistance for the young students to attend international conferences and symposia.
Each year NMRS will provide partial support for young scientists, who are members of NMRS, for attending international conference or symposium.[Age Limit: 40 yrs ] The following students have been supported in the respective years under young scientist travel award.
NMRS Prof. S. Subramanian’s 60th Birth Day Lecture Award
NMRS invites nominations for the Prof. S. Subramanian’s 60th Birth Day Lecture Award. The award is given annualy to an outstanding scientist working in any area of magnetic resonance. The award has been instituted from an endowment received to honour Prof.S.Subramanian, formerly Professor of Chemistry at IIT, Chennai and presently at NIH, Washington D.C., USA from his students and colleagues. It will be given annually to an outstanding scientist working in any area of magnetic resonance. The award consists of a cash prize of Rs.10000/= (Rupees ten thousand only), a citation and a certificate and will be presented in a special session of the NMRS symposium. The work done in India by an applicant will be recognized for the award. However, out-standing work, primarily done by the nominee in short visits abroad, could also be included for the consideration of the committee and an integrated view will be taken. The age limit is 45 years on December 31 of the previous year. For example for the award to be given for the year 2011, the nominee should have been born in the year 1966 or later.
The award will be presented in the annual symposium of the Society that is held immediately after the announcement of the award and the selection of the awardee is made. The awardee is expected to make an oral presentation of his work that lead to the award in this symposium. It is expected that the recipient will make his own arrangement towards TA/DA for attending the symposium where the award is being presented.
Any life-member of NMRS can nominate a scientist who should also be a life-member of NMRS. Self-nominations are also accepted. Applications received once may be considered for three consecutive years (subject to the age-restriction), with a request from the nominator/applicant each subsequent year. The bio-data may also be updated each year.
Format for the application is as follows:
- Complete CV and list of publications
- A one page write-up of major contributions in the last five years
- Copies of 5 important publications in the last 5 years
- If self-nominated, a list of up to three references with at least one NMRS life-member may be provided.
Submission by electronic mail is encouraged. Applications may be addressed to the President NMRS and sent by email(nmrs@nrc.iisc.ernet.in).
For the award for the year 2011, applications should be received on or before 31st December 2011. The announcement of selection will be made during last week of January 2012.

The City of Etiquettes
Lucknow, the “Golden City of the East” retains an old world charm that fascinates one and all. Regarded as one of the finest cities of India, Lucknow emanates a culture that combines emotional warmth, a high degree of sophistication, courtesy and a love for gracious living. This sublime cultural richness famous as “Lucknow Tehzeeb” blends the cultures of two communities living side by side for centuries, sharing similar interests, speaking a common language.
Lucknow is a city, synonymous with the Nawabi Culture. The imperialistic splendour and magnificence of magnificence of the Nawabi Era has been glorified and eulogized down the ages by writers, poets and historians alike. Known for its “Nazakat” and “Nafasat”, Lucknow is also associated with its legendary hospitality, leisurely moods of life, fabled edifices steeped in history, world renowned cuisine and exquisite Sham-e-Avadh. Tremors of time have not effaced Lucknow of its cultural heritage and traditions, which once contributed in creating the city incomparable in its times.
Musicians and dancers flocked to Lucknow giving birth to new musical forms and instruments under the patronage of the royalty. Art forms like Kathak, Thumri, Khayal, Dadra, Qawalis, Ghazals and Shero Shairi saw their finest hour, and flourished here.
Modern Lucknow, spread evenly on both sides of river Gomti is a perfect blend of the ancient with the modern as many glitzy shopping arcades coexist with the old monuments. It now has some of the finest Research Institutes like CDRI, NBRI, BSIP, IITR, CIMAP, BBAU, Medical Institutions of international repute such as CSM Medical University and Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences and fine Arts Centres like Lucknow College of Arts, Bhatkhande Music University. The distance of CBMR from Charbagh Railway Station (Main Railway Station) and Airport is approximately 15 Kms.
Invitation
The National Magnetic Resonance Society (NMRS) of India is organizing its 16th meeting
(NMRS-2010) during February 21-24, 2010 at Centre of Biomedical Magnetic Resonance (CBMR), Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) campus, Lucknow. The first two days will be devoted to a special symposium on “Recent Developments and Applications of Biomedical Magnetic Resonance” a topic of special interest to the aims and objectives of the CBMR. Since the Centre’s interest is focused on the applications and developments of Magnetic Resonance for human health, the Special Symposium will project all aspects of Magnetic Resonance as applied to medicine and related fields. This is a continuously growing area for both clinical and basic scientists. The last two days of the conference will deal with different areas of Magnetic Resonance including methodology, instrumentation, theory and applications in diverse fields of science. Several plenary as well as invited lectures by eminent scientists from all over the world from various laboratories, academic institutions and industry will be delivered. Short presentations and poster sessions will also be included in the program. The “best” poster and “oral” presentation awards (two each) will be given to the young researchers.
